Project Description
In partnership with the Cedar Foundation, THEDI launched this foundational mission at Kamanga Health Centre to address the critical shortage of dental care in rural Sengerema. More than just a clinic, this "formative" outreach was designed to map out the real-world barriers communities face when seeking oral healthcare. By combining immediate care with deep community engagement, we worked alongside local leaders and health workers to promote life-changing hygiene practices. The data and insights gathered from Kamanga have since become the blueprint for our expanded oral health programs across the Mwanza region, ensuring our interventions are always evidence-based and community-focused.
Key Achievements:
Direct clinical care: Efficaciously conducted comprehensive oral health screenings and provided immediate treatment for conditions such as dental caries and periodontal disease.
Community mobilization: Effectively partnered with local community health workers, religious figures, and leaders to create public awareness on the oral outreach mission.
Strategic needs assessment: Successfully assessed local Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) to identify gaps in oral health literacy and accessibility to quality care.
Blueprint for expansion: Established the foundational data required to inform the development of proposal for oral health initiatives among underserved population in six rural districts of Mwanza region, starting with Misungwi as a pilot district.
